About
Bavan Gallery was founded in 2018 by Ava Ayoubi in central Tehran. Its first project was a site-specific exhibition, Revision at the House on Abdeh St. The gallery opened to the public in December 2019, after a year of planning and renovation.
The gallery occupies an old townhouse. It has exhibition space on two floors, a small project space in the basement and a former pool converted into an open cube for site-specific installations. Its programme centres on contemporary art and new media, with the aim of linking Iranian artists to the international scene.
Alongside exhibitions, Bavan holds panels, discussions and workshops and publishes related material. It takes part in art fairs, including Contemporary Istanbul in 2022 and 2023, and runs an off-site programme called Bavan Projects. The gallery also lists a London office address.
