Press release
Kulturnest in Sin el Fil presents THRESHOLDS, or les seuils, a group exhibition of 15 artists running from 24 October to 2 December 2026. Pamela Chrabieh, the venue's co-founder and chief executive, curated the show. It gathers photographs, oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, collages, steel sculptures, watercolours and ink drawings on cardboard, and some works are paired with poems. The works hang in the rooms of a restored family house from the early twentieth century, and an online catalogue presents 47 of them.
The title refers to points of passage: a door, a border, a departure or a return. Chrabieh ties the idea to life in Lebanon and the region, between staying and leaving, loss and rebuilding. She also points to private changes of body, belief or relationship. Her curator's note sorts the works into four groups: passage and crossing, inner states, memory and belonging, and collective worlds. The exhibition follows Havens, the previous collective show at Kulturnest.
Lily Naim shows three photographs. In The Crossing a lone man walks the empty beach at Ramlit El Baida. Bouquet shows a balloon seller where the sea meets the Corniche, and The Great Dive II catches a boy in mid-air above the water. Nathalie Bannout's Unspoken and Beneath the Silence (both 2026) are faces on tall canvases, 150 by 60 centimetres, run through with drips of colour. Her Whispers of the Soul I and II (2022) are steel sculptures of fragmented faces, made in response to Beirut's port explosion and the war. Joseph El Arid's paintings, among them The Crises (2019) and Searching for Hope (2023), crowd figures and broken forms into restless, semi-abstract scenes. The arch recurs across his work.
Nada Raphael photographs destroyed homes in Tyre and Ebl el Saqi and a doorway in Palmyra, each in an edition of three. Katia Aoun Hage shows three watercolours of a sunrise seen from an aeroplane, with poems, and Rima Ghanem draws in ink on cardboard. Michel Raad's Apparition and Tower Metamorphosis series date from 2025 and 2026. The other artists are Elise Salameh, Faten Hamdan, Layan Hariri, Nadine Tabri, Olga Safa, Rania Issam Hamady, Rouwaida Mallo and Zahraa Al Baba. The show opened on Saturday 24 October. It is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am to 6pm, and to collectors by appointment. Entry is free.
