The Horizon We Inherit

The Horizon We Inherit is a solo exhibition by the Emirati artist Eman Al Hashemi at Iris Projects, Studio 20, Madar 39, MiZa, Port Zayed, Abu Dhabi, from 26 September to 26 November 2026. It is her first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Al Hashemi works across ceramics, printmaking and mixed media. Her clay works combine the exhibition's central motifs, the sun, the streetlight, the building and the roundabout, into hybrid structures. "The Horizon We Inherit examines the shifting temporalities, infrastructures, and perceptual conditions of urban life in the United Arab Emirates," the gallery writes. It adds that she "asks what is lost when cities are reshaped through expansion and redevelopment, and what may persist when a place survives only as a trace".

Eman Al Hashemi was born in Dubai in 1993. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Sharjah (2016) and an MFA in Ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design (2023). She teaches at the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah. Her earlier solo exhibitions include Square: not square (2022) and Superficial Transactions (2024, curated by Nasser Abdullah), both at Aisha Al Abbar Gallery, Dubai. Her residencies include the Sheikha Salama Emerging Artists Fellowship (2017 to 2018), Forsa School at Sharjah Art Foundation (2019 to 2020) and the Teaching Artist Fellowship at Manarat Al Saadiyat Art Studio (2024).

The exhibition publication includes an essay by Maya Allison, Chief Curator and Executive Director of the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Galleries.
