Precarious Beings

Precarious Beings is a solo exhibition by the Kuwaiti architect and designer Hamad Almuzaini at Tashkeel, Nad Al Sheba, Dubai. It runs from 1 September to 11 October 2026.

The exhibition looks at placemaking in Kuwait City through everyday details, overlooked objects and urban infrastructure, in photography, drawing and sculpture. Tashkeel writes: "From broken poles loosely securing an electrical box to a maintenance worker's discarded glove, the works stem from accumulated observations of Kuwait City's most ordinary details." The works are arranged in three frameworks: Subjects, Situations and Simulations.

In his statement Almuzaini describes his practice as "uncovering gestures, behaviours, and motivations that quietly shape the act of placemaking." He is based in Dubai. He studied architecture at the University of Southern California and holds a Master's degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University. He has worked in architectural practices in Kuwait, Los Angeles, Tokyo and New York.

The National describes Precarious Beings as his first solo exhibition and reports that it grew from his part in Tashkeel's Critical Practice Programme. Tashkeel describes Critical Practice as a one-year programme of studio practice, mentorship and training for visual artists, ending in a solo presentation. An exhibition catalogue is sold through the Tashkeel shop.
