Press release
Kalim Bechara Art Gallery in Downtown Beirut presents Infinite Frequencies, a solo exhibition by the Lebanese sculptor Nabil Helou, from 8 to 31 October 2026. The opening is on Thursday 8 October, 6pm to 8pm, and the artist attends that evening only. The catalogue lists twenty-seven entries dated 2024 to 2026: painted fibreglass sculptures, some combined with wood, and sculptures in marble, basalt and Lebanese cedar.
The works fall into two groups. The Odd Frequency Series is made in painted fibreglass, with titles such as The Red Odd, The Green Angel and The White Waterdrop. Sizes range from The Deep Red Odd, at fifty-eight centimetres, to Set of Three Leaves, whose largest element measures 252 centimetres. The Infinity Series turns to stone and wood. The Wormhole and The Milky Way are made in Nero Marquina marble, while The Merkaba and The Blue Moon set Bianco P marble on basalt. Echoes of the Galactic Field is made of basalt alone, and The Phoenix and Cosmic Field, both in Lebanese cedar, belong to his From War to Art Series.
The gallery's text frames the work through what Helou calls his "Triple H": Heart, Head and Hands. In that account, the heart answers to intuition, the head to imagination and thought, and the hands to the weight, resistance and texture of each material. The same text presents "Odd Frequency" as a vibration that can be sensed through sight even when it cannot be heard, and describes the sculptures as "music for the eyes". It also treats empty space as an active part of each piece rather than as absence.
Helou was born in Beiteddine in 1969 and has worked as a sculptor for more than three decades. He studied at ALBA, the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, completing a master's in visual art, and taught sculpture there from 1995 to 2000. Further training followed at ENSAC in France. His public sculptures stand in Downtown Beirut, Aley and Rachana, and abroad in Changchun, Essaouira, Latakia and Ottawa.
