Frogs, Jazz & Blisters

Frogs, Jazz & Blisters is a solo exhibition by the Kuwaiti artist Dalal Al-Obaidi at Taymour Grahne Projects, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. It opens on 23 September and runs until 11 November 2026, and is her first solo exhibition with the gallery.

The exhibition has fifteen works: thirteen oil paintings on canvas and linen, all 2026, and two soft pastel drawings on paper from 2024. The gallery describes the paintings as a view of a life split between London and Kuwait. "A lot of the works in this show are not necessarily about London," Al-Obaidi says in the gallery's text. "They are more about Kuwait and how it affects the way I think about home."

In Dream Exchange, characters from the Kuwaiti stage comedy Bye Bye London appear inside Pimlico Underground station. Three paintings draw on an old television game show familiar to generations of Kuwaitis. Phantom shows a man beside an expensive car in the desert, with a plastic chair. Staircase, Kaifan reconstructs the blue interior of a relative's house. Of her palette the artist says: "My choice of colours this time is more loose and more vibrant."

Al-Obaidi was born in Kuwait in 1996. She studied at Central Saint Martins in London and lives and works in Kuwait. Her solo presentation Time to Go was shown at Sultan Gallery, Kuwait, in 2024. Group exhibitions include Five Painters at Taymour Grahne Projects, Dubai (2026), and I Am Not What I Am, I Become at Athr Gallery, Jeddah (2026).

The exhibition opens alongside Katia Kameli's The Canticle of the Birds at the same gallery.
