Press release
CerModern in Ankara is showing paintings by Ekrem Yalçındağ from 19 September to 1 November 2026. The solo exhibition is titled Dilin Çeşitliliği ya da Evinde Hissetmek. The paintings are made of colour, pattern, motif, paint, surface, repetition and rhythm, all set down by hand. Motifs multiply across each canvas, and repeated patterns turn into rhythm. The exhibition text is by Levent Çalıkoğlu.
In Çalıkoğlu's reading, these parts do more than add up to a single image. Over the years they have formed a shared pictorial language, which has now reached maturity. Every new painting draws on the visual memory the artist built before and changes it in turn. A familiar motif comes back in another colour, and a known order returns in a new rhythm. Geometric order meets the intervention of the hand on one surface. Repetition meets variation there too, and precision meets intuition.
The title links two ideas with the word "or", and the text argues that there is no need to choose between them. With time, the language of diversity becomes a kind of home for the painter. Home here means a feeling of closeness rather than a place. It is an order he has built himself, returns to and keeps changing. Each painting is made anew, and in that remaking the artist hears his own voice.
Yalçındağ was born in Adıyaman in 1964. He completed his degree at Dokuz Eylül University's Faculty of Fine Arts, Izmir, in 1989, then a master's degree there. From 1994 to 1999 he was at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, where he studied with Hermann Nitsch. His gallery, Sevil Dolmacı, points to geometric and floral motifs drawn from traditional craft. For his Natures series he presses painted wooden panels onto canvas over large silkscreened plant motifs. CerModern is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 7pm.
