Majd Kurdieh

Majd Kurdieh (b. 1985, Aleppo, Syria) is a painter who lives and works in Amsheet, Lebanon. He paints on canvas in layers of bright colour, with simple, childlike figures drawn in outline. Most of his paintings carry a short line of his own writing in Arabic.

He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, finishing in 2008, and left Syria in 2013. Since 2014 he has painted a cast called the Fasaeen, Arabic for tiny ones: a boy, Fasoon, and a girl, Fasooneh. They travel with a group of animals called The Very Scary Butterfly Gang. The early series Land Needs Ironing (2014 to 2016) introduced them. Later series include Watermelon Peace (2021), Wings of the Dream (2023) and Butterflies (2024). The Journey (2026) is a series of hyperrealist narrative oil paintings.

Fann À Porter in Dubai represents him and has shown his work since 2016. His solo exhibitions there include Stealing Sadness (2018), One Wound, One Smile (2022) and The Journey (2026). A retrospective, The Road is in its Companions, was held at As Safir, Beirut, in 2023. Group exhibitions include Narratives from the Middle East at BBA Gallery, Berlin (2019), and Emotive Journeys at Azad Art Gallery, Cairo (2021). His work has been shown at VOLTA Basel (2025) and Abu Dhabi Art (2024). The Atassi Foundation holds his work.
