Kamel Al Moghani

Kamel Al Moghani was a Palestinian painter and teacher, born in the Shujaiya quarter of Gaza, who died in Gaza in 2008. He made mixed-media paintings. His surfaces combine paint with sand, burlap, iron, newspaper and electronic circuits, and some are painted on sanded board.

He studied decor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, graduating in 1966. In 1987 he completed a master's degree on the psychology of symbol and colour. His subjects came from Palestinian life and the national struggle. A study in Romman magazine traces a shift in his imagery from the masked fighter to the figure of the Palestinian woman. Works from the 1980s and 1990s include Jerusalem (1996), mixed media on sanded board.

He was a founding member of the Faculty of Fine Arts at An-Najah National University, Nablus. He also helped found the fine arts department at Al-Aqsa University, Gaza. He helped establish the association of visual artists in the Gaza Strip. He received a medal from the Union of Soviet Artists in 1979 and a medal from the City of Dundee, Scotland, in 1981. According to Fann À Porter, most of his work was lost in the war in Gaza. Mixed-media works from the 1980s and 1990s were shown in Essence of Egypt at Fann À Porter, Dubai, in 2026.
