Haig Aivazian

Haig Aivazian is an artist who lives and works in Beirut. He works in video, sculpture, performance and installation. His installation 1440 Sunsets per 24 Hours (2017), shown at the 2020 Yokohama Triennale, used floodlights and wall drawings made with fitness chalk balls.

He describes his subject as "the ways in which power embeds, affects and moves people, objects, animals, landscape and architecture". His works include Prometheus (2019) and the video essay All of your Stars are but Dust on my Shoes (2021). I Am Sick But I Am Alive belongs to a body of work on the history of so-called Oriental music after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

He studied at Concordia University in Montréal and Northwestern University, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His solo exhibitions include Sfeir-Semler Gallery in Hamburg (2013) and Beirut (2015 and 2016), Kadist, Paris (2017), the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus (2018), The Renaissance Society, Chicago (2021) and The Showroom, London (2022), his first in the United Kingdom. He took part in the Armenia Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale and the 14th Istanbul Biennial, both in 2015, and in the 2021 New Museum Triennial.
