About

Tophane-i Âmire Culture and Art Centre is the exhibition venue of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSÜ) in Tophane, Beyoğlu, Istanbul. It occupies the former imperial cannon foundry, which Sultan Mehmed II took over as the Ottoman gun works after the conquest of the city. The building passed to the university in 1992.

Four spaces, Beş Kubbe, Tek Kubbe, the cisterns and the Cam Altı Galeri, host national and international exhibitions through the year. In 2026 they showed textile work by Ayşe Fıçıcıoğlu, calligraphy by Ali Toy and photographs by Mert Çağıl Türkay. The centre is also a venue for the 212 Photography Istanbul festival.

The complex went up in the fifteenth century on a site once occupied by Byzantine churches. For centuries the foundry cast guns for the Ottoman army and navy, and early in the twentieth century it briefly served as a school. A garden café, Okuma Bahçesi, sits inside the grounds.
