About

The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, known as the FBQ Museum, is a private museum at Al Samriya, about 22 kilometres west of Doha. It opened in 1998 and is run on a non-profit basis. It shows the collection Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani built up over several decades.

The museum occupies a fort-like building of local stone with turrets, on the Al Samriya estate. Its holdings number more than 30,000 objects, grouped into twelve themes that range from Islamic art and Qatari heritage to vehicles, jewellery and money.

Among the rooms most relevant to art are the Islamic art section and a Qur'an room that also displays a kiswah, the cloth that covers the Kaaba. A furnished house from Damascus, with its tiles and latticework, was rebuilt inside the museum. More than 700 hand-woven carpets are on view, and separate carpet and car museums share the site.
