Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, established 2008
A museum of Islamic art, faith and science in a converted souq on the Al Majarrah waterfront, Sharjah.

About
Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization opened under this name on 6 June 2008 in the former Souq Al Majarrah, on the waterfront of the Heart of Sharjah. It is run by Sharjah Museums Authority.
It grew out of the Islamic Museum, inaugurated in the Heritage Area on 6 November 1996. On the Ruler's direction its collections moved to the converted market building, which had opened as a souq in 1987, and were reinterpreted for the new galleries.
More than 5,000 objects from across the Islamic world cover the 7th to the 20th centuries. Galleries deal with faith, science and successive periods of Islamic art, from pottery, metalwork and woodcarving to manuscripts, textiles, arms and coins. The Al Majarrah Gallery stages two temporary exhibitions a year, such as Spectacle and Splendour, with Ottoman works lent by the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest.
