Sakıp Sabancı Museum
Istanbul, Turkey, established 2002
Sabancı University's museum of calligraphy, Turkish painting and loan exhibitions in Emirgan, Istanbul.

About
Sakıp Sabancı Museum belongs to Sabancı University and stands in Emirgan, on the Bosphorus in Istanbul. It opened to the public in 2002, four years after the Sabancı family gave the house and its collections to the university.
The museum holds Sakıp Sabancı's collection of Ottoman calligraphy, Korans and illuminated manuscripts, and a painting collection tracing the early decades of painting in Turkey. It also keeps furniture, decorative arts and archaeological objects. Alongside these it stages large temporary exhibitions; Yoko Ono: Insound and Instructure runs from 25 June to 27 December 2026.
The main building is the Atlı Köşk, or Mansion with the Horse. The Italian architect Edoardo De Nari designed it for a prince of the Egyptian Khedive family, and it was finished in 1927. Hacı Ömer Sabancı bought it in 1951. A modern gallery wing was added for the museum's opening, and its exhibition spaces were enlarged in 2005. The museum also runs a conservation unit, learning programmes, concerts and talks, and entry is free on Tuesdays.
