About

Rubaiya Qatar is a contemporary art quadrennial presented by Qatar Museums. Its first edition runs from 21 November 2026 to 30 April 2027 at several sites in Qatar. It is developed by ALRIWAQ Art + Architecture and directed by Sheikha Alanood Al Thani.

The headline exhibition, Unruly Waters, opens at ALRIWAQ beside the Museum of Islamic Art and is curated by a team of four, including Tom Eccles and Ruba Katrib. It uses water to trace links between the Gulf and South and East Asia. More than 50 artists appear alongside objects from the Qatar Museums collections, among them finds from the Cirebon shipwreck.

Two further exhibitions, Our Common Currents at QM Katara Gallery and Seething Sea, bring the edition to more than 120 artists. Ahead of the opening, Rubaiya Qatar presented Rirkrit Tiravanija's bread-baking pavilion in MIA Park and his National Pavilion of Qatar at the 2026 Venice Biennale.
