Istanbul, Turkey, established 1914
A state museum of Islamic art in the Palace of İbrahim Pasha, beside the old Hippodrome in Sultanahmet, Istanbul.

About
The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts is a state museum in Sultanahmet, Istanbul, listed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It opened on 27 April 1914 as the Evkaf-ı İslamiye Müzesi, or Museum of Islamic Foundations. It has carried its current name since 1926.
The museum first occupied the soup kitchen of the Süleymaniye complex. In 1983 it moved to the Palace of İbrahim Pasha, a 16th-century residence raised on the seating tiers of the Roman Hippodrome. Suleiman the Magnificent gave the palace to his son-in-law and vizier İbrahim Pasha in 1520, and the building was restored in 2012.
Close to 40,000 works cover the period from early Islam to the last Ottoman century. Carpets are a particular strength, from 13th-century Seljuk pieces to Uşak carpets. Manuscripts and Qur'ans, the Damascus Documents, woodwork, stone, metal, glass and ceramics are also shown, with an ethnography section on daily life.
