Liwan Design Studios and Labs

Liwan Design Studios and Labs is a design hub run by Qatar Museums in Msheireb, central Doha. It opened in 2022 in a restored mid-century building that once held Qatar's first school for girls. The Qatari designer Aisha Bint Nasser Al Sowaidi is its director.

Members use shared and private studios and labs for clay, leather, prototyping and digital photography. Its residencies give local and regional designers mentoring, funding, studio space and work with artisans, with an exhibition at the end. Talks, workshops and screenings run through the year.

From 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 Liwan shows Bu'ed Nadhar, design work from five residencies, as part of Design Doha 2026. A permanent display traces girls' education in Qatar, and the library keeps the old school's children's books.
