About

The Light & Peace Museum is the museum of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre in Abu Dhabi. It occupies the Dome of Peace at the mosque and opened to the public on 18 December 2024.

Five sections follow the arts and sciences of Islamic civilisation, the three holy mosques and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque itself, with a section for families. Highlights include gold-illuminated folios of the Blue Qur'an from the 9th to 10th century, a gold dinar of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan and a 14th-century Andalusian astrolabe.

The wider display takes in calligraphy, decorative arts, textiles and scientific manuscripts, with metal, wood and marble works, contemporary artworks and belongings of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Objects are rotated to protect them. A later change of display brought in a gold-plated candlestick of 1539, a Mamluk door inlaid with ivory and a 17th-century astrolabe.
