Tarabya Cultural Academy
Istanbul, Turkey, established 2011
A German government residency programme for artists, set in the former German summer embassy in Tarabya, Istanbul.

About
Tarabya Cultural Academy is a residency programme of the German Federal Government in Tarabya, on the European shore of the Bosphorus, about 15 km north of central Istanbul. It opened on 13 October 2011. The German Embassy in Ankara runs it, and the Goethe-Institut is responsible for its curatorial side.
Each year an open call awards stays of four or eight months to artists who live and work in Germany. The disciplines include visual art, architecture, design, film, music, literature, performing arts and journalism. With the Allianz Foundation, it also gives three Turkish-German co-production residencies to artist tandems. More than 220 fellows have stayed since the first arrived in September 2012.
The academy occupies the former chancellery and coach house of the German ambassador's historic summer residence, a site Sultan Abdul Hamid II gave to the German Empire in 1880. Residents have seven apartments and two studios. Water Finds Its Way, the first part of its fifteenth anniversary programme, runs from October to December 2026.
