Kalyon Kültür
Istanbul, Turkey, established 2020
A cultural centre with free exhibitions and events in Taş Konak, a 19th-century mansion in Nişantaşı, Istanbul.

About
Kalyon Kültür is a cultural institution in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, which has occupied Taş Konak since 2020. It calls itself a young institution that backs cultural production through programmes spanning several disciplines. Entry to its exhibitions is free.
Its exhibition programme opened in March 2020 with Ahmet Polat's Kökler. Later shows have included LIA: Hayatı Kodlamak, Jisbar İstanbul'da, Ian Berry's Beyond Denim and the group show Güneşin Kıyısı. Film screenings, talks, music evenings and art workshops fill a monthly events calendar.
Taş Konak was built on the orders of Sultan Abdülhamid II and assigned in 1889 to the statesman Mehmet Raif Paşa. His daughter, the poet İhsan Raif Hanım, also lived there. The mansion has a Neo-Gothic facade and painted interiors from three periods. Kalyon Kültür left the building unrestored and added only a removable glass winter garden at the back.
