About

The Istanbul Research Institute (İstanbul Araştırmaları Enstitüsü) is a research body of the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation, which also runs Pera Museum. It occupies a nineteenth-century building on Meşrutiyet Caddesi in Tepebaşı, designed by the architect Guglielmo Semprini and restored by the architect and conservator Sinan Genim.

Its work is organised in sections for Byzantine Studies with the Semavi Eyice Library, Ottoman Studies with the Şevket Rado Manuscript Library, and Atatürk and Republic Studies, alongside a programme on Istanbul and music. A public library and documentation centre hold books, manuscripts, photographs and personal archives, among them the Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu Photography Collection.

The Institute's gallery stages exhibitions produced by the Institute from its own holdings and research, with free entry. The Institute also publishes exhibition catalogues, several book series and the Annual of İstanbul Studies, and runs talks and research grants.
