About

The Museum of Islamic Civilisations belongs to the Büyük Çamlıca Mosque complex in Üsküdar, Istanbul. It is run by the Directorate of National Palaces, under the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye. The mosque opened in 2019 as the largest in the country.

The project set out to bring before the public some of the Islamic objects kept in the stores of Turkey's museums. More than 500 pieces were chosen from six collections. They include Topkapı Palace Museum, Istanbul Archaeological Museums, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, the Palace Collections Museum, the Museum of Wakfs and the Istanbul Tombs Museum.

They are arranged in 15 themed sections. These run from Turkish weaving, Qur'ans and the Damascus Documents to calligraphy, illumination and marbling, Turkish tiles, talismanic shirts, Ottoman costume and coins. Digital and interactive displays sit alongside the objects.
