About

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, known as İKSV, is a not-for-profit cultural organisation set up in 1973. Seventeen business figures and arts supporters founded it under Dr Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı, aiming to stage an international festival in Istanbul.

In the visual arts, İKSV has organised the Istanbul Biennial since 1987 and the Türkiye Pavilion at the Venice Biennale's art exhibition since 2007. In 2014 it secured the pavilion a long-term space at the Sale d'Armi in the Arsenale, allotted until 2034. From 2012 it also ran the Istanbul Design Biennial, suspended after its fifth edition in 2021.

The foundation's calendar also takes in Istanbul's film, music, jazz and theatre festivals and the autumn film week Filmekimi. It runs the İKSV Young Artist Fund, created in 2022, and coordinates an artist residency at the Cité internationale des arts in France. Since 2009 it has been based in Deniz Palas in Şişhane, renamed the Nejat Eczacıbaşı Building in 2013. The building houses the performance venue Fiba Salon İKSV and İKSV Alt Kat, a free learning space for children and young people.
