About
Bakırköy Sanat Galerisi is a public art gallery on Özgürlük Meydanı in Bakırköy, Istanbul. It opened on 7 March 2024, as part of a scheme that remade the busy square as a place for culture and meeting. It is one of the museums of İBB Atatürk Kitaplığı, the municipal library.
The gallery sets out to make art easy to reach in the heart of the city, as an open stop for passers by. Its first exhibition, Anadolu'dan İzlenimler, came from the İyilik İçin Sanat association.
Exhibitions are organised by İBB Kültür and İBB Miras, the culture and heritage departments of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and entry is free. From 24 March to 25 October 2026 the gallery shows Karşılaşmalar, a solo exhibition of paintings by Gülgün Başarır. Her untitled canvases deal with space, destruction and continuity, through fragmented spaces and displaced structures.
