About
Arkas Art, Arkas Sanat in Turkish, is an İzmir organisation founded to share the Arkas Collection, assembled by Lucien Arkas, chairman of Arkas Holding. Its first space opened in Alsancak in November 2011, in the sea-facing part of the French Consulate building. The consulate was completed in 1906, and the French government lent this part for 20 years.
Arkas Art now runs seven centres around İzmir. The Alsancak building has ten exhibition rooms for collection and loan shows. Arkas Art Urla shows European painting and sculpture, armour and carpets from the collection, Arkas Art Bornova shows Anatolian carpets, and Arkas Art Göztepe, opened in 2025, shows Turkish painting.
The Lucien Arkas Art Center opened in the Mistral building in April 2026 and hosts exhibitions from the Centre Pompidou collection between 2026 and 2031. Arkas Art Alaçatı and the Arkas Maritime History Center in Bornova complete the group, alongside publications and learning programmes.
