Atatürk Kültür Merkezi
Istanbul, Turkey, established 1969
The state arts centre on Taksim Square, Istanbul, with opera, theatre and two exhibition spaces.

About
Atatürk Kültür Merkezi, known as AKM, is the arts centre on Taksim Square in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, home to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's resident companies. Its rebuilt complex opened on 29 October 2021, with an opera house, a theatre and spaces for exhibitions.
Visual art is shown in two places. AKM Galeri is a 410 square metre hall on the Taksim Square side, which is also offered for hire. The Müzik Platformu, on the internal Kültür Sokağı street, holds temporary exhibitions on two floors. From 15 to 29 October 2026 it shows Zamanın Katmanları, work by Erkan Özdilek curated by Berna Demirhan, with free entry.
The first building opened in 1969 as the İstanbul Kültür Sarayı. After a fire in 1970 it reopened in 1978 under its present name, to a design by Hayati Tabanlıoğlu. The new AKM also holds an art library of more than 20,000 titles.
