About
Galerist is a contemporary art gallery in Istanbul, founded in 2001. Since 2011 its rooms have been in Passage Petits-Champs on Meşrutiyet Caddesi in Beyoğlu, a nineteenth century landmark building in the old Pera district. In twenty-five years it has staged about 200 exhibitions and represented close to fifty artists, from Turkey and other countries.
Its programme alternates solo shows with thematic group exhibitions and spans artists at the start of their careers, established names and artist estates. The gallery says it is committed to gender equity. Its roster includes Semiha Berksoy, Nil Yalter, Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin, Elif Uras, Yusuf Sevinçli and Hera Büyüktaşcıyan. It takes part in Art Basel, Frieze, Paris Photo and The Armory Show.
Publishing runs alongside the exhibitions. Galerist Publications issues monographs and catalogues, among them the Semiha Berksoy Catalogue Raisonné (2017), a Nil Yalter monograph (2013) and Yusuf Sevinçli: Tumult (2024). In 2006 the gallery founded the magazine Art Unlimited, first titled Galerist, which became independent in 2015 as Unlimited Publications. The gallery also runs an artist residency programme.
