About

Galeri Soyut is a commercial gallery in Ankara, founded in 1990 by Memet Subaşı, who had trained in sculpture at Gazi University's Gazi Faculty of Education. Its first rooms were in Kızılay, and its unbroken run of exhibitions dates from 93 Güzünden Esintiler, which opened on 29 November 1993.

The gallery opened in Çankaya in 2004 and made it the main address in 2006, when the Kızılay rooms closed. The Yıldızevler building offers 600 square metres in three rooms, A, B and C, and extra rooms added in 2011 allow up to five solo shows at a time. A second space in Çayyolu, run by Onur Subaşı, opened in 2021 across three floors of about 500 square metres.

The programme runs to around 40 solo and group exhibitions a year, changing roughly every three weeks. It covers painting in oil, acrylic and watercolour alongside sculpture in ceramic, glass, metal and marble, mixing long-standing gallery artists with younger names. Its December project show Yeni Aralık is built from 25 by 25 cm works and drew 1,262 pieces by 185 artists in 2019. The gallery also holds auctions and takes stands at Ankara art fairs.
