About
Bozlu Art Project is an Istanbul gallery set up in 2013 by Bozlu Holding, a group active in health and technology. Alongside exhibitions it runs panels, talks, documentaries, catalogues, an archive and a book imprint, Bozlu Sanat Yayınları. It aims to widen the audience for art and to make the artists it works with better known in Turkey and abroad.
Until December 2018 the gallery ran two spaces, in Nişantaşı and Şişli. Since January 2019 it has been based in the Mongeri Binası in Şişli. Giulio Mongeri, an architect of Italian origin and a notable figure of Republican period architecture in Turkey, put up the building in the mid-1920s. It holds exhibition rooms, a library and an archive, and hosts publishing work and talks.
Its programme mixes retrospectives of major modern and contemporary artists from Turkey with shows by younger artists. At set times of year it also displays the collection of Dr. Şükrü Bozluolçay, founder of Bozlu Holding, which goes back to the 1970s. One part of that collection, Sanatçı Atölyeleri (Artist Studios), keeps the palettes, brushes, aprons and paint tubes artists used in their work.
