About
Bab idDeir Art Gallery is an independent gallery for Palestinian art, founded in 2017 by its director Rula Dughman. It began in the old city of Bethlehem, in the quarter around the Church of the Nativity that local people call Bab idDeir, the Monastery area. In May 2024 it opened a second space in Ramallah, on Sahel Street in the old city.
The programme gives room to both emerging and established Palestinian artists whose work reclaims Palestinian narrative and identity, and links them with audiences at home and abroad. Past exhibitions include Kitchens by Alaa Albaba, From our Room at the Camp by Wadeei Khaled and To Survive To Witness by Marwan Nassar. Artists listed on its website include Nabil Anani, Tayseer Barakat and Khaled Hourani.
Alongside the exhibitions, the gallery runs a shop for young Palestinian designers, selling jewellery, ceramics, textiles and clothing. It also issues limited A3 prints of works from its past shows, and offers a café, cultural tours and art workshops.
