Towards This Distant Land, I Orient…

Dar Al-Anda Art Gallery in Amman is presenting Towards This Distant Land, I Orient…, a solo exhibition by Palestinian Canadian artist Eman Haram, who lives between Montréal and Amman, on view from 15 September to 17 October 2026 in the gallery's restored villas in Jabal Al-Weibdeh.

As its title suggests, the exhibition gathers works that orient themselves towards an ancestral land. Born in Damascus to parents from Haifa, Haram has long made memory and distance the core of her practice, which addresses personal and collective histories erased through colonisation and the passage of time.

The photographic image is central to her work. Haram treats archival photographs as starting points for research, reading them closely alongside other sources to bring to light histories concealed by colonial and settler colonial plunder and dispossession. She trained in architecture and art history, and much of her printmaking has been produced at Atelier Circulaire, the historic print studio in Montréal.

The show marks a return to Dar Al-Anda, which presented her work at Contemporary Istanbul in 2015, and forms part of Amman Design Week 2026, with a reception at the gallery on Saturday 3 October at 6pm. In a city home to one of the largest Palestinian communities in the world, it is a quietly powerful invitation to look towards a place many visitors know mainly through inherited memory.
