Reimagined

Reimagined is a solo exhibition by the Palestinian-Syrian-Dutch painter Oussama Diab at Artbooth Gallery, Al Rawdah, Abu Dhabi, from 17 September to 31 October 2026.

The exhibition catalogue lists twelve works in mixed media on canvas. In the Reimagined series, Diab reworks paintings by Picasso, Van Gogh and Anthony van Dyck. Diab says he began the series in 2013 with New Guernica, a mural. The show includes two works after Guernica: New Guernica (After Picasso) (2026), in three panels, and Middle Eastern Guernica (2026). Also shown are La Coiffure, after Picasso (2026), and three works after Van Dyck: Jupiter and Antiope (2024), Moses and the Serpent (2024) and Samson and Delilah (2026). Two sunflower paintings draw on Van Gogh. The largest work, New Guernica (After Picasso), measures 250 by 570 cm. "Rather than reproducing canonical masterpieces, he transforms them, allowing centuries old images to speak to contemporary realities," the gallery writes.

Oussama Diab (b. 1977, Damascus, Syria) graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, in 2002. He worked in Syria and Lebanon before moving to Europe in 2015, and is based in the Netherlands. His solo exhibitions include shows with Ayyam Gallery in Damascus, Dubai and Beirut between 2009 and 2012. His work is in the collections of Museum Arnhem, the Valkhof Museum Nijmegen and the Dubai Collection. He has received two grants from the Mondriaan Fonds.
