Artist's Room: Lulua Alyahya

Artist's Room: Lulua Alyahya is a solo exhibition by the Saudi painter at Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai. It runs from 20 September 2026 to 31 January 2027. It is her first solo exhibition in the United Arab Emirates.

The room brings together new commissions, loans and works in the Art Jameel Collection. The centre writes: "Through her paintings, Alyahya explores culturally embedded archetypes with tenderness, humour and a critical inflection." Her paintings often engage with representations of masculinity, set against Gulf deserts and horizons filled with high-rises. She works on an intimate scale, in layered, gestural brushstrokes that show compositions revisited and reworked during their making.

Works reproduced with the exhibition announcements include Skyscrapers (2023), oil on paper. They also include 12 Lone Wolves/Circuits (2023), an oil on canvas by Rami Farook and Lulua Alyahya. Both are in the Art Jameel Collection.

Alyahya was born in 1998 and lives in Bahrain. She holds a BFA from the Slade School of Fine Art and an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her first solo exhibition in Saudi Arabia, Nafs, was shown at Athr Gallery, Jeddah, in 2025.

Artists' Rooms is a series of solo exhibitions drawn largely from the Art Jameel Collection. Rooms by Walid Siti and Shezad Dawood open at the centre on the same dates.
