Biography
Zouhair Dabbagh was born in 1953 in Aleppo, Syria. Trained as a sculptor, he makes bronze figures and paintings in mixed media, and treats the two as one art spoken in two languages.
His figures are slender and elongated, with long arms and no fixed expression, with strong colour played against empty space in the paintings. The bronze The Day He Whispered I Love You (1977), a work about human love, dates from the year he finished his studies. A mixed-media work titled Beyrouth draws on the city.
He graduated from the sculpture department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 1977 and has exhibited since 1970 in Aleppo, Beirut, Paris, Singapore, Geneva and Luxembourg. Art on 56th in Beirut held his solo exhibitions 2000 - 2014 (2014) and Zouhair Dabbagh (2017). His work is in the collection of the Damascus Museum.
