Nada Elkalaawy

Born in Alexandria in 1995 and raised between Egypt and London, Nada Elkalaawy studied architecture at Central Saint Martins and fine art at Kingston University before completing an MFA in painting at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2018. She lives and works in London. Her figurative paintings never work from life: she builds them from sketches drawn from her collections of images, including family photographs, still lifes, art-historical references and online sources, with flowers, plants and domestic dinnerware returning as carriers of mourning, regeneration and emotion.
