Biography
Jessy Tabet is an artist who works in acrylic on canvas. She was born in Gemmayzeh, Beirut. She paints abstract landscapes and expressive portraits. Her subjects include cityscapes, villages, the sea, the cedar, sunsets and the port. She builds up layers of paint and texture with brushes and palette knives, and raises reliefs with the knife. She says each painting starts from an emotion, a memory or a melody rather than a plan.
Echoes of the Port (2021), 120 by 160 cm, depicts the port of Beirut. The Bridge (2022) shows the Jounieh Bridge, and Raouche (2022) the Raouche rock in Beirut. Eternal Cedar (2023) is a 90 by 90 cm painting of the cedar tree. In Flying High (2024) the Lebanese flag appears above the city. Soul of the City (2026), 100 by 120 cm, shows white, grey and ochre houses with red roofs. They sit between a turquoise sky and its reflection in water.
Tabet studied at the Lebanese University's Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture. Eternal Cedar, Mountains by the sea and Cotton Sky were shown at the US ambassador's residence in Awkar. Flying High hung in the ambassador's private office. Her solo exhibition Lebanon in Every Shade, curated by Gabriel Rizkallah, runs at Rebirth Beirut, Gemmayzeh, from 5 to 14 November 2026.
