Fahrelnissa Zeid

Fahrelnissa Zeid was born on the island of Büyükada, Istanbul, on 6 December 1901. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts for Women in Istanbul, at the Académie Ranson in Paris under Roger Bissière, and at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, and went on to live in Berlin, London and Paris. In 1954 she became the first woman to exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.
