Aseel AlYaqoub

Aseel AlYaqoub (b. 1986) is a Kuwaiti researcher and artist based in Kuwait City. She works in sculpture, installation, drawing, video and text, and her research draws on history, political theory, architecture and cultural sociology. She trained in architecture at the Architectural Association in London before taking a BA (Hons) at Chelsea College of Arts, London, and an MFA at Pratt Institute, New York.

With Alia Farid she won the Art Jameel Commission in 2018 with Contrary Life: A Botanical Light Garden Devoted to Trees. The work is a site-specific installation in plastic, metal, light bulbs and electrical wire, made for Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai. She was one of five artists shortlisted for the seventh Ithra Art Prize, and her Flora Incognita, a herbarium of hybrid desert plants, was shown at Ithra, Dhahran, in 2026.

With Asaiel Al Saeed, Saphiya Abu Al-Maati and Yousef Awaad she co-curated Space Wars, the Kuwait Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (2021). She took part in Desert X AlUla (2024). Contrary Life is in the Art Jameel Collection, Dubai, and her work is also held by the Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah.
